Response to Real Clear Politics blog

In a recent blog Tom Bevan posed the following questions in response to Rev. Lowery's benediction.

What exactly did Reverend Lowery mean when he prayed for the day when "yellow
will be mellow?"
'REV LOWERY: Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from
their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work
for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick
around -- (laughter) -- when yellow will be mellow -- (laughter) -- when the red
man can get ahead, man -- (laughter) -- and when white will embrace what is
right. Let all those who do justice and love mercy say amen.'
Just asking.
The line certainly didn't need to be in there for the crowd to understand he was
rhyming. So why was it - and what the heck did it have to do with the point he
was trying to make?

My response to Mr. Bevan is simple: really? I doubt that he was making any negative connotation to "yellow" needing to mellow. I think he was just making sure to mention everyone, first off. Secondly, I think he was saying, when will it be mellow (or ok) to be yellow? I just felt like this post was unnecessary and it is this kind of blogging that clogs up any "real" or "necessary" discussion topics. Stop wasting time holding every human being accountable for every syllable that comes out of their mouths, we're all human, let's just focus on the message and less on the semantic bull.

It's been a while...

I guess there has been too much going on for me to keep up on all of it. I am finding myself torn between several different interests and hobbies, making it impossible to keep up with my blogging habits. I do miss it though... so here goes. I am currently editing the piece I wrote (and won) for National Novel Writing Month. Editing is not nearly as fun as writing, so I am keeping myself sane by working on two other novels as well. Both of them are in the pre-writing-outlining, organizing-of-chaos stage. Hopefully soon they will start to manifest.

I have been pretty dedicated to my website, though not as dedicated as my partner in crime (my programmer). For those of you that don't know about the project, it is a music promotion/ social-networking site intended to help local artists get people to their shows and hear their music. Live Underground Music is finally starting to look like it should and I encourage any artists or fans of good music to check it out and get their friends to take advantage of the free promotion.

Finally, I have been busy with job-hunting and school. With the wonderful economy I picked the worst time on the planet to be looking for work, but luckily enough I finally snagged a position at an average company doing average things. This may be annoying in the long run, but for now it is work and it gets me by so I can go home every day and do my "real" work.
